CCVA - Chinese visual arts
CCVA fosters innovative research in the fields of contemporary Chinese art, design, and visual culture. Through its extended partnerships, it brings artists, designers, curators and researchers from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the UK and their expertise together to share, understand and innovate. It aims to foster new understandings and trans-disciplinary perspectives of Chinese contemporary arts, design and visual culture through both creative practices and theoretical studies. Envisaging the increasing visibility and significance of Chinese contemporary arts in the international arena, it takes a non-Western focus and cross-cultural vision where China is a method.
With extensive regional to international partnerships, CCVA brings together artists, designers, curators and researchers who are working with, or are interested in the contemporary contexts of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in order to share expertise, understanding, critiques and ideas of innovation. CCVA aims to foster new understandings and perspectives of Chinese contemporary arts, design, media and visual culture through curating exhibition, interdisciplinary practices and academic research.
CCVA was initiated in 2007 through an international network with the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA) and the China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou (CAA), and is hosted within RAAD - the centre for Research in Art, Architecture & Design at Birmingham City University (BCU).
